Traditional relational databases have some drawbacks:

• too expensive for big data purposes
• not always scalable
• no support for unstructured data

Recently a number of fast databases appeared in the market. My experience is that Hadoop is useful for reporting and selection of data. Other databases are easy to use with datamining.

The requirements for the datamining calculations make traditional standard software almost useless. Dedicated software is needed.
